How funny, we were just discussing this in my kitchen design class and several students brought up the good point that they would likely get very greasy and be terrible to keep sparkly if you actually cooked in your kitchen. But I do love the look.
They are definitely not a low-maintenance option, but I'd think as long as they're mounted far enough away from the cooktop, and there's adequate ventilation, they probably wouldn't get much dirtier than they would elsewhere in the home.
